SPLŪ
The long term solution for recurrent pyoderma
Canine pyoderma is a staphylococcal bacterial infection that can be triggered by allergies, parasites, fungal infection and an imbalance of the endocrine glands or immune system problems. The disease is often seen as a secondary disorder linked to allergies. It can manifest itself as either a superficial, or a deep form. Minor skin irritation and small sores may be seen at first, whereas in the deep form damage is severe.
Traditionally, antibiotic treatment is the first line of defence against staphylococcal
infections and they will probably be effective in the short term. However, canine
pyoderma often returns even after antibiotic treatment ends. Now there is a long
term, effective treatment for recurrent pyoderma - it is called Staphyolococcus
Aureus Phage Lysate (SPLŪ).
SPLŪ is a whole bacterial cell lysate produced by a bacteriophage. It is a long
term solution for the control of recurrent canine pyoderma. It reduces the need
for repeated dosages of antibiotics, thus reducing the risk of antibiotic resistance
developing. With an excellent safety record and no known contraindications this
unique vaccine is the only product of its kind available to the veterinary market.
WHY USE SPLŪ?
- Recommended by veterinary dermatologists
- The only product of its kind for dogs
- Reduces the need for repeated courses of antibiotics
- Easy to administer
- Cost effective
HOW DOES IT WORK?
In non-allergic dogs with a staphylococcus infection the SPLŪ bacteriophage lyses
and destroys the staphylococcus bacteria and decreases the staph colonisation
and hence infection.
In dogs with a staphylococcus infection with concurrent allergies the SPLŪ has
a dual action; firstly lysing and destroying the staphylococcus bacteria and secondly
decreasing the immune response to bring the allergies under control.
HOW DO I GET IT?
SPLŪ can be ordered by Veterinary Surgeons directly from Avacta Animal Health
(the sole UK distributors). An STC(Special Treatment Certificate) approved by
the VMD is required for this vaccine. For assistance with this please contact
us. Following receipt of an authorised STC the vaccine will be delivered to your
practice within 5 working days.
